Destination Nowhere Bandana
The Artist: Brad Gabbard (Lake Charles, LA, USA)
Brad Gabbard is Iraq War Army Veteran turned illustrator, graphic designer, and head of Native Tongue design studio based in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Brad works full-time as an apparel designer for the clothing brand Southern Marsh Collection and keeps extremely busy with freelance work for a variety of brands in his spare time.
Brad's work showcases his expertly ability to execute everything from modern minimalism to vintage vectors. Spanning a variety of styles and encompassing platforms ranging from logos to apparel to skateboard decks, Brad's work is hard to pin down and he admits he "finds it hard to stick to just one style." He lists John Contino, Morning Breath, Curtis Jinkins, Young Jerks, and Lincoln Design Co. among his influences, and while elements of those designers exist in Brad's work, his ever evolving body of work is that of an artist just hitting his stride with a style all his own.
In addition to Southern Marsh Collection, Brad's work has been featured in designs for New York Football Club, The Unity Concert Tour, Privateer Rum, and Patton's Beard Cream.
The Design: "Destination: Nowhere"
Brad created "Destination: Nowhere" as a modern take on the "outlaw" mentality. Less criminal and more introspective rebel, Brad's biker is yearning to experience a sense of real freedom. The biker's quest takes him on a lonesome journey on the open road with no agenda, no destination, and no attachments.
"In our modern society," Brad explained, "we seem to be losing more freedoms everyday." The biker is the embodiment of the feeling many of us have had (but few have acted on) to just "get away from it all." This 21st century "outlaw" shuns the trappings of society, choosing to live his own way of life, by his own rules.
