What are you known for in the Denver community?

Being new to Denver, I am just starting to find my place in the city. I would like to think that so far I have brought a little bit of happiness and help to my community. Each month, I take a percentage of money from my business and use it to create “Helping Hand Bags” for people affected by homelessness. I stock these bags with hygiene materials, snacks, socks, and basic necessities for everyday life. I keep these bags in my car and pass them out to people I pass on my drives through the city. So far I have bumped into a few people who recognized me as “the girl with the treats” :)

What inspired you to get into your passion?

I have always been a lover of the arts, but was never taught that art could be a career. While teaching full time during the pandemic, I began crafting as a form of therapy to disconnect from the chaos of my job. Through my self-taught crafting, I began to follow and meet makers who pursued their art full time... and were successful! Their success made me realize that crafts can be a career, so I quit my job and put all of my efforts into creating and selling my work.

What advice do you wish you could give your younger self?

When something upsetting occurs, give yourself time to process before reacting. When angry, remove yourself from the situation, breathe, journal, privately vent and then come back to the situation with a thoughtful response rather than an impulsive one.

What kind of impact are you hoping to make in our world?

I hope to impact the lives of people in the special education and homeless communities. One day it would be my dream to open an art studio for individuals with disabilities that specializes in offering employment to people affected by homelessness and felony charges. I have always wanted to be a voice for underrepresented communities and feel that bringing them together in a space to create art would be profoundly beautiful.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies include running, cooking, smoking grass and hanging with my cool ass husband!

Where are you from?

Cumberland, Rhode Island

What is one of the greatest lessons you’ve learned from life?

No matter how much schooling you have had, or how long you have worked towards your professional goals, if you are going to sleep stressed every night and waking up anxious every morning, you are in the wrong career. Life is too short to spend 40 hours a week hating what you are doing.
